The Firestik
II
I want a heavy duty, hi-performance CB antenna
with maximum bandwidth and power capabilities. Whether or not I want to
move the antenna from vehicle to vehicle or to another location on the
vehicle, I need an antenna that can be quickly and easily tuned.
The "FS" series are the logical upgrade to
the "KW" (non-adjustable) series antennas. Adding to the
proven features of the "KW" antennas a bandwidth broadening,
increased power handling, easy-tune tip for precise SWR adjustments. The
uniqueness of the design allowed the antenna to be patented. All
"FS" antennas are compatible with auto, trucks, vans,
motorcycles and ATV's in a single antenna configuration when metallic
ground plane is available. Or, in dual (co-phased) configuration on any
vehicle whether metal, fiberglass or aluminum. All "FS"
antennas exceed the requirements of any CB radio, old or new. Aside from
the exclusive hi-performance, loading coil that maximizes the
transmit/receive functions of your CB, these top-loaded antennas will
also receive the NOAA emergency weather alert and national weather
broadcasts for radios with those functions.
Like all of our fiberglass antennas, the
"FS" antennas are 100% American made with 100% American materials.
They are built from only the finest materials available. From the custom
blended fiberglass 1/2 in shaft to the heavy insulated copper wire that
prevents the oxidation and shorted windings often found in competitive
antennas, the "FS" antennas shout quality. Look at the
details. Like 3/8"-24 threaded base with a tapered contact point
that transfers stress away from the threads, and static reducing,
water-tight tubing with ultraviolet stabilizers and fade resistant
pigments that guarantee optimum performance and longevity. For best
results, we recommend that you use 18ft Fire-Flex coaxial cables with
these antennas.

Tuning Your Mobile CB
Antenna |
SET-UP: All tests should be performed after the antenna is installed and the coaxial cable and its connections have been checked for shorts or opens. The rubber tip of the antenna must be in place when taking all readings. Testing must be done in an open area, at least 20 feet away from buildings. Never perform tests in a garage or carport. The doors, hood and trunk of the vehicle must also be closed. Oversight of these details will result in inaccurate readings.
TESTING: The SWR meter must be connected between the CB radio and the antenna. It is advisable to read the instruction manual that came with the meter. Measure and record the SWR on channel one (1), twenty (20) and forty (40). The ultimate goal is to achieve an SWR reading below 2.0 on channels one through forty.
If measurements are below 2.0 on all channels, it isn't necessary to make any adjustments. Keep in mind, If SWR is the same on channel 1 and 40, adjustments to the antenna may have a negative effect.
If SWR on channel 40 is greater than channel 1, your antenna is "LONG". Reduction of physical height will correct this situation. If SWR on channel 1 is greater than channel 40, your antenna is "SHORT" and increasing the physical height of the antenna is required.
NOTE: An adjustment on a 4 foot antenna might move the SWR by 0.3; the same adjustment on a 2 foot antenna may move the SWR by 1.0. Make smaller adjustments on shorter antennas.
DUAL ANTENNAS: Measurement of short or long conditions is the same as the single antenna procedure. However, if you adjust one antenna, you should adjust the other in equal amounts to keep them in perfect balance. |
