WARNING:
SOFTWARE, CABLES and KITS are NOT RETURNABLE - NO REFUNDS!
NOTE: You MUST have a basic understanding of Computers, Windows
Explorer, Folder Creation, Folder Navigation, Files, File Types, etc., to
install and operate Windows programming software.Windows Versions of the VX-4000,
VX-6000, VX-3200, VX-3000 non-alpha, VX-2500, VX-600, VX-800,
VX-900,
VX-180 & VX-160 are now available. Some of the information below applies
only to the DOS versions of Vertex Standard programming software.
Note: The older "white" VPL-1 cable
doesn't work with the Windows programs. You should purchase a new
"black" VPL-1 cable (the only type we sell) if you intend to use these
programs.
CAUTION:
Always UPLOAD
(read) the radio first:
1.UPLOAD (read) the radio and
SAVE a backup copy of
your original (unedited) file to your hard drive.
2.EDIT the file. Add, delete
channels, change CTCSS/DCS
codes, alpha tags, etc.
3.SAVE a backup
copy of the edited file to your hard drive.
4.DOWNLOAD (send) edited data
file
to radio.
Note: Never start programming from the default file that
loads when the software starts. Editing the existing file that's
contained onboard the radio's micro controller is required
because it contains non-user technical data needed for proper
operation. |

WARNING!
You must have the following if you
intend to purchase programming software (DOS CT-42 or VPL-1 Disks or
older programming kits), cables, etc. :
- An understanding of Microsoft DOS, including:
- DOS Commands.
- How to install DOS programs.
- How to configure COM & LPT Ports.
- How to "Boot Up" in DOS mode.
- How to use and read floppy disks.
- General knowledge of DOS operating system.
- A computer with DOS Ver5.0 to Ver6.22 installed:
- The higher the version the better - Ver6.22 is best.
- Windows ME, NT, 2000 and XP - USUALLY WILL NOT WORK! (sometimes
OK)
- Non-Microsoft versions of DOS - WILL NOT WORK!
- Windows 95/98 DOS - USUALLY WILL NOT WORK! (sometimes OK)
- Linux, Unix, etc., etc. - WILL NOT WORK!
- An OLD, SLOW computer:
- Boot computer and run program in DOS.
- Speed - 16 to 100 MHz - MAX .
- RAM - 8MB or more.
- Mouse and Printer make using Software easier.
- Compaq Computers usually don't work because of COM PORT
design.
- We get reports that some new, fast computers work but most do
not.
- A Computer with Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, ME or XP installed...Yikes!
- Some Program Disks come as Windows compressed files or
"Zip" files. They must be un-Zipped or un-Compressed
in Windows then installed and run on an old DOS computer. I
know this sounds crazy but it's true!
- An understanding of FCC rules and regulations:
- Programming channels you are not authorized or properly
licensed to transmit on is illegal.
- Programming receive only channels is usually always OK. Check
your State and Local Government regulations.
- Multec Communications / rfwiz.com is not liable for the
improper or illegal use of any product or service which it has
provided.
- Multec Communications / rfwiz.com reserves the right to require Proof of
Licensing or Written Authorization before programming any
transmit frequencies in 2-Way type radios or selling Programming
Software.
- Cables:
- Some of the old/obsolete programming kits (for Standard
radios) require a common serial cable to connect the computer to
the interface box. This cable IS NOT supplied with the kit and
can be purchased for a few dollars at any computer store.
- User Tips:
- Always UPLOAD (read) the radio
first, edit the file, save a backup copy to your hard
drive then and only then DOWNLOAD (send) data to radio. Never
start programming from the default file that loads when the
program starts. Editing the existing file that's contained
onboard the radio's micro controller is required because it
contains non-user technical data needed for proper operation.
- Advanced User Tips:
- It has been reported that some faster computers may work by
changing the settings in the Windows Device Manager. (Always
write down your original settings so your can undo any changes)
- Reduced COM port "bits per second" rate to 1200
- Advanced Settings: reduce receive and transmit buffers to
lowest setting. (may help to try disabling FIFO buffers)
NOTE: Programming SOFTWARE
and CABLES are NOT RETURNABLE - NO REFUNDS!!!
| If you don't understand the above or are
unfamiliar with any of the requirements I recommend you do not
purchase the programming software and cable. If you have a local
Computer Shop they sometimes will sell you a suitable computer
and set up your software for a reasonable fee. Print this
page and bring it in to them first to see if they can
help. Microsoft
DOS is obsolete but radio programming software
designers still write programs using it. We will program the
first 10 channels free in any radio purchased new from us. Additional channels will
require a labor charge since a 200 channel radio can take
several hours to program and check. |
